Ange was family, and although separated geographically, we had a precious connection. She had the ability to really "see" people, and form a bond. Precious me ...

Angé for Sunflowers
A global garden of remembrance honoring those we've lost to cancer
"Plant a sunflower, share a story, spread hope"
Our Vision
Every sunflower planted is a life remembered, a story shared, and a beacon of hope for those still fighting. Together, we're creating a worldwide community united by love, loss, and the enduring power of remembrance.
Angé Story
Tell Your Story
"She didn't enter a room. She changed its temperature."
Long before cancer ever touched our lives, Angé was already teaching people how to live. Not loudly. Not theatrically. But by the way she moved through the world — with wonder, with generosity, and with that unmistakable brightness that turned ordinary moments into something golden.
She laughed easily, but never carelessly. She made strangers feel like friends, and friends feel like they mattered. Children adored her. Old people trusted her. Animals followed her. And somehow, so did the sun.
She spoke to beggars on the street. She spoke to security guards no one else even noticed. It was not unusual to walk down a busy road and have to stop — not because she was lost or distracted — but because she had paused to talk to someone sweeping the sidewalk or pushing a trolley. She saw people. Especially the ones the world tried to look past.
There was no performance in her kindness. No effort. It was simply who she was — to see, to stop, to listen — and to make sure no one felt invisible in her presence.

The Open House Policy
She didn't just talk to strangers — she brought them home. We had what Angé called an "open house policy," but it wasn't written on the door. It was written in her heart.
If she met someone while hiking or cycling — someone with dust on their boots, a story in their smile, and perhaps nowhere else to go — they'd be invited in. For a meal. For a shower. For a place to rest that wasn't just a bed, but a moment of belonging.
And somehow — always — there was enough. Because Angé had this uncanny ability to open the fridge, find a few scattered leftovers, and create a meal that made everyone feel like honoured guests. A single roast chicken could feed seven. She didn't just feed people's stomachs. She fed their hearts.
The Plastic Warrior
Not a beach walk went by without us collecting plastic. Bags in hand, heads down, she'd scan the shore with sharp eyes and soft steps, picking up anything that didn't belong to the ocean. There were no selfies. No slogans. No need for credit. Just a quiet, determined rhythm: collect, carry, protect.
Seeing Souls
She had a radar for the invisible — the sadness behind a smile, the ache people didn't know how to name. She'd ask gently, "Are you okay — really okay?" Her presence was the balm. She didn't tell you who to be. She reminded you who you already were.
Her Philosophy
In South Africa, there are always hungry people at the traffic lights. And Angé saw them all. She insisted on buying things we didn’t need from street vendors — not because we needed them, but because they did. And she never haggled. Not once.
“We might not miss the hundred rand we didn’t bargain for — but they might feed their family with it tonight.”

Angé Story
Guardian of the Shore
Here she is in her element — hat on, smile bright, red bag in hand. This wasn't a photo opportunity. This was Tuesday. This was who she was when no one was watching. A quiet guardian of the shore, making the world a little cleaner, one piece of plastic at a time.
